1. Lines: The eye naturally follows lines and all clothing has lines. The lines in clothing are necklines, pockets, sleeves, hems, etc. For example, a sweater that has v-neckline will draw the eye downward creating a long line, the look of a longer neck, longer face and slimmer upper body.By contrast a turtleneck creates a short, horizontal line that stops eye and makes the face appear fuller, the upper body bigger and the neck shorter. Using this concept alone you can create a slimmer upper body by sticking to tops with vertical lines that create the look of length; and by stashing the turtlenecks until you feel a little slimmer.

2. Color: A basic rule of color is that black recedes and white advances. In clothing this is important because it means that darker colors will make the wearer appear smaller and lighter clothing will make the wearer look larger. Wearing black to look slimmer is a trick that has sometimes been over used. Black does have a slimming effect but too much black can be dreary and create a washed out look if the proper makeup is not worn.

Sometimes women who want to look smaller try squeezing into a smaller size which defeats the purpose. Tight clothing will always make you look larger. It is much more flattering to wear clothing that fits well and glides over the body rather that sticking to it. Wear dark colors on the places you want to appear smaller but be sure not to wear them tight. For example, if you are a triangle shape with a larger lower body than upper body and you want your lower body to appear smaller, wear a light color top with dark pants or skirt. For an overall taller and slimmer look, dress in the same color (or shades of the same color) from head to toe.

3. Proportion and Scale: A simple explanation of proportion and scale is that an object seen next to other objects appears either larger or smaller depending on the size of the objects that appear next to them. The size of a handbag in relation to the woman carrying it is a good example of this. A large woman carrying a small handbag will appear larger. To avoid looking larger when wearing prints, keep them in proportion to your size.

Inside the show box was a return slip stating this show was returned by another customer because the customer wasn't happy with the boot..So i got a used item and whats more is that the boot is totally different then what you see on the pics. There is no emu trim on the top of the shoe also the sheepskin quality is really bad, Its yellow unlike the white you see in the pic. Our 2 boys (3 1/2 and 22 months ) love these boots(even want to sleep in them:))I was worried about sole being too thick(our kids have only worn preschoolians which are soft sole shoes and trip in regular shoes), but since the very tip is raised they have no problems(they also have excelent arch support)Originally we were going to go with bronte lo boots and tied them on at Stride rite store, but Stinger is a lot better. Wool is much much thicker and softer.Our youngest has high arch so it was a bit hard to put them on for the first time, but now they go on just fine. As far as size goes I think they are right on, our oldest wears 11 in regular shoes and his boots are 11(with some room to grow).Boots stay on very well(our boys had bearpaws last year and they kept coming off all the time).Also kids got some apple juice on them and I cleaned it with just water....30 min later surface was dry and no stains. These boots do let water in so we also got a spray(not emu kind) to waterproof them for snow.Great boots!!!!!!!!!!!

These boots were a pleasant surprise. I have purchased similar style apres ski boots for 7x the purchase price of these boots, and was skeptical of the quality of these boots. I am very pleased with these boots. They look fabulous. I knew from prior experience to order up 1 size to wear with a slightly heavier sock, and they fit perfectly. I have a slender calf, they fit the leg comfortably and look good with a skirt, and could get pants tucked in. Haven't worn in the cold yet, so can't comment. Great style for a great price. Disappointed my box arrived torn, but once I got the boots on my happy feet, I taped the box. Can't go wrong with these boots.

These boots are adorable! My calves are about 13 in. around and when I get the boots on, I can also tuck in my jeans, although it takes a little effort, but it's worth it! I also like the fact that the fleece inside at the bottom of the shoe can come out, since I have some foot problems I like to put some special insoles in that are more comfortable for me when walking for longer periods of time. Comfortable to walk in, good traction on ice!

When you get to a certain age it slowly starts to dawn on us ladies that over the years we've probably accumulated more clothes in our wardrobe (not to mention the spare bedroom's wardrobes, every chests of drawers in the house, all the bedside tables, the attics, under the bed, kitchen drawers and even in the garage) than we could possibly wear in a year. And yet we never have anything to wear!

If that sounds like you then follow these few basic guidelines and not only will you suddenly have tons of space in your home for important things like the grandchildren's letters and pictures, but you will also have a streamlined capsule wardrobe and always something nice to wear.

Firstly - be ruthless. Sort through your clothes and throw everything that you haven't worn in the last year in to the charity shop pile. If all the four seasons have passed and you haven't worn something then it is extremely unlikely you are going to wear it ever again. Don't hold on to anything that's too small in the (vain!) hope that you will slim in to it one day.

Next, sort out the remaining clothes in to different colours. How many colours do you have? Most people over forty should stick to a basic palette consisting of a few colours that they know suit them. If there's a little top or blouse standing out on its own because it's lime green, or custard yellow then are you really sure the colour's you? If not, then bung it in the charity pile!

Anything that's torn or a bit dirty then put into a rubbish pile, as however nice you look in something there is nothing worse than stains or bursting seams.

Now you have the start of your ideal capsule wardrobe. The next step is to check that you have the 10 or so essential clothes items that every woman, no matter what her age, should have. These are the clothes it is worth spending a little more on - spend wisely and they will form the basis of your outfit every day, whatever the occasion.

These include well fitting underwear, a versatile silk scarf or pashmina and beautifully cut separates that you can mix and match. Ensure you have a tailored jacket or blazer that you can dress up or down and invest in a cashmere or wool coat in a classic colour and cut as it will go with everything and last you years and years.

If you don't already, next sort out your wardrobe in to winter and summer clothes. Now's the perfect time to pack away all your summer skirts and linen dresses. Take a little time to fold them properly, place tissue paper in between, and remember to pop in a little sachet of lavender, and you'll be rewarded next year with a summer wardrobe that's ready to go as soon as the sun comes out.

Finally colour code your clothes. Some people advise hanging skirts and jackets and so on together but I would recommend that you put similar colours together. Not only will this look much nicer it suddenly becomes so easy to find things. If you haven't the space to hang everything, put similar tops and jumpers together in to clear boxes so you can see what is inside or label them on the outside.

All this will only take a couple of hours or so and it's well worth the effort. You may never say you have nothing to wear ever again!
